It was American Humanist, Pete Larson, who raised the funds from his colleagues to pay the fines to release three old women 'witches' who were imprisoned, unable to pay their fines.
He is visiting Malawi in his professional capacity. Recently, he accompanied ASH's Executive Secretary, George Thindwa, to Lilongwe's notorious Maula Prison where he met a number of 'witches'.

DISAPPOINTING START TO PETITION ON WITCHES
APPEAL: TO SIGN OUR PETITION & SOLICIT MORE SUPPORT
There has been a disappointing response, especially from Malawians, to our petition to President Mutharika to release all 'witches' from prisons, this in spite of sending out more than a 1000 personally addresses emails.
